Middle School

The Middle School offers a well-balanced curriculum that strives to develop fundamental academic skills through the engagement of students in developmentally appropriate learning situations that are challenging, integrative and exploratory. Students learn in a laptop environment that facilitates the development of independent learning. Teachers work systematically to help students develop their literacy, numeracy and learning skills to prepare them for the rigorous Senior School programme. Students are encouraged to think creatively, take intellectual risks and reflect on their own learning styles to help them become independent, intrinsically motivated learners.

The diversity of the programme is one of its major strengths. The core programme in English, math, science and the social sciences is strong and challenging. As well, there are opportunities for students to enhance their bilingual skills with core offerings in courses such as science and geography in the French language and an accelerated French programme. Technology skills are integrated into core programmes and enhanced through grade-wide learning situations that are guided by I.T. specialists. Students also have the opportunity to learn the elements of a third language__Spanish__and enhance their skills with optional courses that are offered in the Senior School. They are encouraged to adopt a healthy, active lifestyle in Physical Education and Health. Finally, they are exposed to the arts through the study of music and visual art in grade 7, with an option to carry on with music in grade 8 or take a split art/drama course.
