When we recently asked students, parents, teachers and alumni what they thought made LCC a special place, the consistency of the answers amazed me. While everyone had slightly different examples or stories to share, there was no mistaking the common themes. People consistently pointed to the tremendous array of opportunities available to students; the culture of excellence, respect and joy; the wonderful sense of community; and the exceptional resources that the school has to offer.
LCC is proud to offer amazing opportunities for students. Our academic program has enriched courses for those needing an extra challenge, a wide variety of optional courses to appeal to every student, appropriate focus on fundamental skill development through our early literacy and grade 7 orientation programs, and support for different learning styles. We also have a full range of co-curricular opportunities: unparalleled offerings in media and the arts, leadership positions at almost all grade levels, a comprehensive athletics program that meets the interests of every kind of athlete, and an international program augmented by membership in the Duke of Edinburgh program and the International Association of Round Square Schools. All of these are offered equally to boys and girls in a coeducational environment that mirrors the world of university and beyond.
What is striking—and personally gratifying—is that students and staff alike enjoy being at LCC. We are a school that sets high standards in everything that we do, but we also enjoy the challenge. Our highly dedicated staff and low teacher/student ratios allow for the development of positive relationships between staff and students. This helps to enhance the learning environment and allows us to encourage students to try new things and stretch their boundaries.
At LCC, we live our motto – Non Nobis Solum/Not for ourselves alone. Through service opportunities locally and beyond, we try to instill a sense of responsibility in our students, and ensure that everyone has the chance to make a difference in the lives of others. Our alumni—almost 4,000 strong worldwide—also play a vital role in the development of the school, contributing as mentors, in a counselling capacity, or in the form of donations that help the school to continue to grow and flourish.
We are fortunate to have some of the best resources in the city. Our campus boasts ample classroom space, new science labs, four gymnasia, two libraries, an auditorium, a state-of-the-art hockey arena and over 3 acres of green space. We also have a one-to-one laptop program starting in Middle School and an exceptional IT infrastructure. Most significantly though, we know that it’s the people who make a huge difference. Our faculty is exceptional, and we are highly committed to ensuring that our teachers are up-to-date with the latest in educational research, so in turn, our students reap the benefits of their on-going learning.
There are many excellent schools from which to choose and we recognize that selecting the school that best fits your child is important. Once you compare, we think that you will appreciate the significant role that LCC can play in the development of your son or daughter.
LCC is a special place. We hope that once you learn more about our distinguishing characteristics, you will want to join our community of life-long learners.
