Senior School

LCC’s Senior School prides itself in its ability to develop enthusiastic learners while preparing its students for university study. We challenge students in the core courses by providing extensive enrichment opportunities, but we also allow students to progressively choose more and more courses of personal interest as they continue through the Senior School. Students have one option at the grade 9 level, two at grade 10 and three in grade 11, choosing from a list that varies from short film production to advanced chemistry (view course offerings and descriptions).

We encourage students to take risks in their subject choices, opting for a year in theatre arts, broadcast journalism, or media exploration, while still pursuing the courses necessary to meet requirements for the years beyond high school. Faculty, advisors, and academic counselors promote diversity in learning and work hard to show the overlap in subject matter in the different core courses.

All students are encouraged to achieve at the highest level possible in the math and sciences to keep their options open in grade 11 and post-secondary education. We do not ask them to choose a stream of study in grade 10. Rather, we aim to have as many students as possible succeed in the highest level math and science courses to allow them the opportunity to continue studies in these disciplines if they so choose. We believe that our programme provides the necessary foundation for success, while allowing students to take courses outside of the mainstream.

For students with thoughts of university life outside Quebec, several streams can lead to successful completion of Advanced Placement courses.
