Junior School (K-6)

All aspects of the kindergarten program (six competencies) are integrated in both English and French instruction, where 70% of the program takes place in French and 30% takes place in English. In addition, students have éducation physique four days a week. Read our kindergarten program overview.

At all grade levels, students’ work is uploaded by using Seesaw, an online portfolio app, and parents are able to see their child’s progress and get a glimpse into some of the daily activities occurring in the classrooms.

Apps are used to practice math skills, write, audio-record and read books tailored to their reading ability.

Coding is also used to build problem-solving skills and develop logical thinking. Scratch Jr. and Dash and Dot robots are introduced in grades 1 and 2 as an introduction to coding, while the science curriculum builds on this from grades 3-6. In December, the entire Junior School participates in The Hour of Code, a global movement involving millions of students around the world, during which everyone commits to coding for at least an hour.

Students learn how to create with their iPads and find information on the Internet. iPads are used to listen to audio books and allow students to practice their French grammar, write stories, explain mathematic reasoning, and organize ideas when taking notes.

Students read, research, take notes, create and share their work with their teachers using Google Classroom. They also use technology as a planning tool, gather information and present what they have learned. The Internet is used as a valuable resource to find the most up to date information on a variety of topics. Students create original presentations and demonstrate their knowledge by using a variety of apps. Students use technology such as Turtle Art for special projects, which combines art with science. Using a coding environment that is accessible to all ages, Turtle Art allows students to create beautiful images, which they can print and exhibit. In sciences, tablets provide access to an entire scientific world (the human body, planet, volcanoes, for example.)
