Grade 7 to 8
Transitioning from elementary to secondary school is a significant milestone for students, and one that presents unique opportunities. It is a time to explore and discover new things. By focusing on the individual learning needs of our students, the Middle School experience will help them to develop independence and a strong foundation that will prepare them for Senior School and beyond. We will work collaboratively with you during the admissions process to determine the best educational choice for your child. To do so, we gather as much information about the student as we can, to ensure mutual understanding and informed decisions.
Please review the information below and feel free to contact the Admissions Office if you have any questions or need assistance.
Note: The Quebec English Eligibility Certificate is not required for admission to the school.

To be considered for round one admission, please complete the online application by January 7, 2025. Supporting documents (as indicated on the application) should be uploaded to the portal or can be sent by email to our office.
Space in grades 8 is very limited. As such, there is a multi-step process for admission at this grade level:
- Step one: Complete the items on the checklist below.
- Step two: Register for admission testing which will take place at LCC on one of the following two dates:
This test, in combination with the completed admission file, will be used to shortlist candidates for either a round one or round two admission interview.
- Step three: Students who have qualified for an interview, following admission testing, will be invited to schedule a meeting with a member of the admissions office team. Please note that interviews will be prioritized according to the strength of the admission file:
- Priority One Group: These students will be considered for admission for round one decisions which will be communicated in the second half of February.
- Priority Two Group: These students will be considered for admission but may not be considered for the early round one admission decisions. As such, applicants who qualify for admission following the testing and interview may be placed in a wait pool.
Preparation is not required for interviews. This is an opportunity for our team to learn more about the applicant and their family. It also provides an opportunity for the family to ask questions about the school and admissions process.

Parents of students with a psychoeducational assessment are asked to include this information as part of the application. Full reports are required along with the most recent Individual Education Plan (IEP). Parents are also asked to disclose if the applicant is scheduled to have an assessment for the first time.
Grade 7 Testing & Interviews
As a school with a holistic admission process, an admission test provides additional insight into the applicant as a learner. Admission test results represent only a small part of the student file and ARE NOT the sole criteria on which admission decisions are based.
Interviews
All applicants and at least one parent or guardian will have the opportunity to meet privately with a representative of the school. This provides the applicant and family the opportunity to ask questions of the school and gives us the chance to learn more about the child. Appointments are made in conjunction with the admissions office.
Admission Testing
There are five possible dates to write the 2024 Grade 7 Common Admissions Test (CAT). Registration deadlines are approximately 10 days before the actual test date. Please review this information, which also includes sample questions, before registering for one of the test dates.
Register for the common admission test by selecting one of these dates:
- September 15, 2024 (Registration deadline: September 4 at 11 pm), 8 am - 12 pm (by appointment, various times).
- September 22, 2024 (Registration deadline: September 11 at 11 pm), 8 am - 12 pm (by appointment, various times).
- September 29, 2024 (Registration deadline: September 18 at 11 pm), 8 am - 12 pm (by appointment, various times).
- October 6, 2024 (Registration deadline: September 25 at 11 pm), 8 am - 12 pm (by appointment, various times).
- October 20, 2024 (Registration deadline: October 9 at 11 pm), 8 am - 12 pm (by appointment, various times).
Here are some important details about the CAT:
- There are three parts to the CAT: ability test (e.g., logic-type questions), English reading comprehension, attitudes towards learning (no math, no French).
- No advance preparation/studying is required.
- The test is multiple choice.
- The test is online, so students complete it in the comfort of their own home.
- The test will take approximately 1.5 hours to complete but parents must ensure that they are available for the full morning of the test date (i.e., 8:15 am - 12:30 pm).
- This test is a common admission test for three other QAIS schools: Bialik, ECS and St. George’s. This means that students who are applying to LCC or any of the other three schools need only complete the admission test once.
- Students who qualify for accommodations will receive extra time and reading assistance.
- The CAT is administered by our third-party partner, Brisson Legris (BL). Registration and payment for the test is done through the BL registration form, NOT the LCC application.
- Students have access to a few sample questions to familiarize themselves with the test.
- The cost of the test, regardless of the number of schools receiving the results, is $78.18 and is payable directly to Brisson Legris through the online test registration.
- A computer and stable internet connection are required to complete the CAT. Families with any concerns about these requirements should contact the LCC admissions office for support.
Grade 8 Testing & Interviews
The admissions process takes place in two steps.
- Step one: A completed admission file and testing
- Step two: Interview (for qualified applicants only)
All applicants to grade 8 are required to complete admission testing as part of the first step of the admissions process. The admissions office will be in touch with applicants regarding admission testing.
Because space is limited, students who qualify during step one of the application process will be invited to an interview with a member of the admissions office team. This meeting includes at least one parent or guardian.
There are two possible dates for round-one admission testing for local students:
- November 23, 2024 (Deadline to register: November 17, 2024, at 10:45 pm)
- January 11, 2025 (Deadline to register: January 5, 2025, at 10:45 pm)
International students can write their tests remotely.
The admissions office will be in touch with applicants regarding admission testing and how to register.
English as a Second Language (ESL)
Our school is committed to providing a high-quality education to all our students. To ensure that every student can fully benefit from our curriculum and participate actively in classroom activities, it is important that all students have a strong command of the English language.
Expectation for English Proficiency
At LCC, we do not offer English as a Second Language (ESL) instruction. Therefore, we require that all students be proficient in English before enrolling. This means that students should be able to:
- understand and follow instructions given in English
- read and comprehend grade-level texts
- write clearly and accurately in English
- participate in classroom discussions and communicate effectively with teachers and peers in English
- understand course materials
How We Assess English Proficiency
English proficiency is assessed during the admissions process (e.g., admission/readiness testing and/or interview).
In addition, students who do not speak English as a first language, and are applying to grades 10-Pre-U, may be asked to complete an English second language proficiency test and must score within the indicated range:
- TOEFL: 90 for iBT TOEFL, 500 for paper-based TOEFL
- IELTS: 6.5
- CAEL: 70
Learning Support
Helping students reach their full potential is part of our mission. That’s why we have a learning support program, called LEAD (Learning Enrichment And Development), which provides direct and indirect support to a limited number of students in grades 1-Pre-U (note that the program and support services offered vary depending on the student’s grade level and needs).
Applicants who have had a psychoeducational or psychological assessment, a speech and language assessment, individual education plan (IEP), or other similar evaluations, must include the most recent reports with their application. An up-to-date report is required as part of the admissions application (i.e., three years for students applying to grades 3-9, and four years for students applying to grades 10-Pre-U). Note that all IEPs must be accompanied by the assessment.
As part of the school-parent partnership, we believe that full transparency and an honest and open relationship is what works in the best interest of the child. Failure to disclose during the admissions process that the applicant is currently receiving or has received remedial support or accommodations, or has had an assessment, could result in a termination of the educational contract. Parents are also asked to disclose if the applicant is scheduled to have an assessment completed for the first time.
Admission Availability
Grade 7
The school admits approximately 50 new students to grade 7 every year.
Grade 8
There are approximately five new spaces for students to enter the school in grade 8. However, because the school may experience limited attrition, it is possible that there could be more opportunities for admission.
When to Apply
