International Students

In addition to the requirements for the entry grade, international students must also:

Kindergarten - Grade 6

• Demonstrate their English language proficiency as per the LCC Admissions Office's request
• Provide immigration documents 
• Provide a certified translation of report cards
• Provide the admissions office with additional information about the curriculum in their current school (as needed)

Grades 7-Pre-University

• Take the TOEFL or IELTS or CAEL test (for English as a second language applicants only)
  Score ranges: 90 for iBT TOEFL, 500 for paper-based TOEFL, 6-6.5 for IELTS, 70 for CAEL
• Provide immigration documents (these can be supplied at the admission office meeting)
• Provide a certified translation of report cards
• Provide the Admissions Office with additional information about curriculum in their current school (as needed)

Our school is committed to providing a high-quality education to all our students. To ensure that every student can fully benefit from our curriculum and participate actively in classroom activities, it is important that all students have a strong command of the English language.

Expectation for English Proficiency

At LCC, we do not offer English as a Second Language (ESL) instruction. Therefore, we require that all students be proficient in English before enrolling. This means that students should be able to:

• understand and follow instructions given in English
• read and comprehend grade-level texts
• write clearly and accurately in English
• participate in classroom discussions and communicate effectively with teachers and peers in English
• understand course materials

How We Assess English Proficiency

English proficiency is assessed during the admissions process (e.g., admission/readiness testing and/or interview). 

In addition, students who do not speak English as a first language, and are applying to grades 10-Pre-U, may be asked to complete an English second language proficiency test and must score within the indicated range:

• TOEFL: 90 for iBT TOEFL, 500 for paper-based TOEFL
• IELTS: 6.5
• CAEL: 70

International students who do not have a foundation in French have unique learning needs when they come to LCC. To help them successfully bridge the language gap, we are pleased to offer special language acquisition courses. These classes vary according to point of entry to the school and may involve an additional cost.

It is important to note that students must fulfil the requirements for French as a second language in order to obtain their Quebec high school leaving certificate (DES - Dîplome d'éducation secondaire) at the end of grade 11.

For international families unfamiliar with the CEGEP (Collège d'enseignement général et professionnel) system, LCC offers two post-secondary options: The International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (IBDP) and the one-year Pre-U/Grade 12 program. Recognized by universities worldwide, these two options provide students with an alternative to the two year CEGEP system that is in line with the North American school system.
