Our school is committed to providing a high-quality education to all our students. To ensure that every student can fully benefit from our curriculum and participate actively in classroom activities, it is important that all students have a strong command of the English language.
Expectation for English Proficiency
At LCC, we do not offer English as a Second Language (ESL) instruction. Therefore, we require that all students be proficient in English before enrolling. This means that students should be able to:
- understand and follow instructions given in English
- read and comprehend grade-level texts
- write clearly and accurately in English
- participate in classroom discussions and communicate effectively with teachers and peers in English
- understand course materials
How We Assess English Proficiency
English proficiency is assessed during the admissions process (e.g., admission/readiness testing and/or interview).
In addition, students who do not speak English as a first language, and are applying to grades 10-Pre-U, may be asked to complete an English second language proficiency test and must score within the indicated range:
- TOEFL: 90 for iBT TOEFL, 500 for paper-based TOEFL
- IELTS: 6.5
- CAEL: 70
