Application Checklist

• A completed online application 
• A photo of the applicant 
• A completed student questionnaire
• A confidential report form (where schools comply)
• Current year and previous two years of final report cards (June 2022, June 2023, and most recent from 2023-2024, if applicable)
• Admission test (details will be communicated with the applicant)
• Applicants born in Canada: A clear copy of the long form version of the student's birth certificate which can be uploaded to the online application. If applicable, both parents’ names must appear.
• Applicants born outside of Canada: A clear copy of the student's birth certificate which can be uploaded to the online application. Note that if the birth certificate is not in English or French, a notarized official translation of the document is required. if applicable, both parents’ names must appear. Also include proof of student's or parent's Canadian citizenship. If the applicant or neither parent possesses Canadian citizenship, Canadian immigration documents must be provided.
• A student and parent meeting with a representative from the Admissions Office. The application must be complete prior to the interview.
• A non-refundable processing and evaluation fee of $50, payable by cheque, online banking (contact the admissions office for details), money order to Lower Canada College, or by wire transfer (from a financial institution outside Canada only).

Pyschoeducational evaluations, IEPs and Other Assessments

Parents of students with a psychoeducational assessment are asked to include this information as part of the application. Full reports are required along with the most recent Individual Education Plan (IEP). Parents are also asked to disclose if the applicant is scheduled to have an assessment for the first time.

The application to grades 8 is a two-step process:

• Step one: Complete the items on the checklist below.
• Step two: Qualified students will be invited for an admissions office  meeting with a parent or guardian. This will provide an opportunity to learn more about the student, the motivation for the application, and educational priorities. It's also an excellent time for the student and their family members to ask questions.

As a school with a holistic admission process, an admission test provides additional insight into the applicant as a learner. Admission test results represent only a small part of the student file and ARE NOT the sole criteria on which admission decisions are based.

Interviews

All applicants and at least one parent or guardian will have the opportunity to meet privately with a representative of the school. This provides the applicant and family the opportunity to ask questions of the school and gives us the chance to learn more about the child. Appointments are made in conjunction with the admissions office.

Admission Testing

There are four possible dates to write the 2023 Grade 7 Common Admissions Test (CAT). Registration deadlines are approximately 10 days before the actual test date. Please review this information, which also includes sample questions, before registering for one of the test dates. 

• September 24, 2023 (Registration deadline: September 14 at 12 pm), 8 am - 12 pm (by appointment, various times). Register 
   

• October 1, 2023 (Registration deadline: September 21 at 12 pm), 8 am - 12 pm (by appointment, various times). Register 

• October 15, 2023 (Registration deadline: October 5 at 12 pm), 8 am - 12 pm (by appointment, various times). Register

• October 22, 2023 (Registration deadline: October 12 at 12 pm), 8 am - 12 pm (by appointment, various times). Register 

Here are some important details about the CAT:

• There are three parts to the CAT: ability test (e.g., logic-type questions), reading comprehension, attitudes towards learning (no math, no French).

• No advance preparation/studying is required.

• The test is multiple choice.

• The test is online, so students complete it in the comfort of their own home.

• The test will take approximately 1.5 hours to complete but parents must ensure that they are available for the full morning of the test date (i.e., 8:15 am - 12:30 pm).

• This test is a common admission test for three other QAIS schools: Bialik, ECS and St. George’s. This means that students who are applying to LCC or any of the other three schools need only complete the admission test once.

• Students who qualify for accommodations will receive extra time and reading assistance.

• The CAT is administered by our third-party partner, Brisson Legris (BL). Registration and payment for the test is done through the BL registration form, NOT the LCC application.

• Students have access to a few sample questions to familiarize themselves with the test.

• The cost of the test, regardless of the number of schools receiving the results, is $74.75 and is payable directly to Brisson Legris through the online test registration.

A computer and stable internet connection are required to complete the CAT. Families with any concerns about these requirements should contact the LCC admissions office for support.

The admissions process takes place in two steps.

• Step one: A completed admission file and testing
• Step two: Interview (for qualified applicants only)

All applicants to grade 8 are required to complete admission testing as part of the first step of the admissions process. The admissions office will be in touch with applicants regarding admission testing.

Because space is limited, students who qualify during step one of the application process will be invited to an interview with a member of the admissions office team. This meeting includes at least one parent or guardian.

Helping students reach their full potential is part of our mission. That’s why we have a learning support program, called LEAD (Learning Enrichment And Development), which provides direct and indirect support to a limited number of students in grades 1-Pre-U (note that the program and support services offered vary depending on the student’s grade level and needs).

Applicants who have had a psychoeducational or psychological assessment, a speech and language assessment, individual education plan (IEP), or other similar evaluations, must include the most recent reports with their application. An up-to-date report is required as part of the admissions application (i.e., three years for students applying to grades 3-9, and four years for students applying to grades 10-Pre-U). Note that all IEPs must be accompanied by the assessment.

As part of the school-parent partnership, we believe that full transparency and an honest and open relationship is what works in the best interest of the child. Failure to disclose during the admissions process that the applicant is currently receiving or has received remedial support or accommodations, or has had an assessment, could result in a termination of the educational contract. Parents are also asked to disclose if the applicant is scheduled to have an assessment completed for the first time.

Grade 7

The school admits approximately 50 new students to grade 7 every year.

Grade 8

There are approximately five new spaces for students to enter the school in grade 8. However, because the school may experience limited attrition, it is possible that there could be more opportunities for admission.

Grade 7

The application deadline for September 2024 admission to grade 7 is October 11, 2023. First-round grade 7 admission decisions will be communicated on Friday, November 3, 2023.

Applications received following the early application deadline will be considered on a rolling basis, but students may be applying for consideration to the wait pool.

Grade 8

We accept applications year-round, however, the best time to apply is in the fall.

The deadline to be considered for fall 2024 round one admission decisions is January 8, 2024. Round one admission decisions will be communicated by the end of February 2024.

Applications received following the first round application deadline may be applying for consideration to the wait pool.

There are a number of criteria that are considered when evaluating a student’s file:

• Admission testing
• Interview
• Student profile
• Parent/guardian partnership
• Confidential school report form (if available)
• Past report cards
• Additional academic assessment (if requested)

Round one grade 7 admission decisions will be communicated on November 3, 2023.

Round one grade 8 admission decisions will be communicated on by the end of February 2024.

In addition to the requirements for the entry grade, international students must also:

• Demonstrate their English language proficiency by completing one of the following tests as part of the admissions process:
  • Duolingo
  • TOEFL: 90 for iBT TOEFL, 500 for paper-based TOEFL
  • IELTS: 6-6.5
  • CAEL: 70
• Provide immigration documents
• Provide a certified translation of report cards
• Provide the admissions office with additional information about the curriculum in their current school (as needed)
