Congratulations to Matthew Anzarouth ’20, Pre-U ’21 for being awarded a Rhodes Scholarship for Canada!
Matthew is currently completing his undergraduate degree at Harvard University with a concentration in social studies and is writing his senior thesis on Canadian federalism and multiculturalism. He plans to study political theory at the University of Oxford.
During his time at LCC, Matthew was a formidable debater, joining LCC’s debate team in grade 7 and becoming the top speaker at the provincial level by grade 9. He deservedly earned a spot on Canada’s National Debate Team, where he contributed to back-to-back world championships in 2020 and 2021, while also earning individual accolades as a speaker, placing third in 2020 and second in 2021.
At Harvard, he continues to lead the way. In his first year at university, he competed with the Harvard College Debating Union, then went onto co-founding and co-hosting a political and philosophical podcast, coaching high school students in debate, and serving as senior world editor at the Harvard Political Review.
With such inspiring leadership and communication skills, we know this is only the start for Matthew and can’t wait to see what he accomplishes at the University of Oxford.
We are fiercely proud of Matthew, who is the ninth Rhodes Scholar in LCC’s 115-year history.
