Established in 2005, this award represents the loyalty and dedication that retired Assistant Headmaster Mr. A. Victor Badian ’61 has demonstrated towards LCC and for the educational experience he himself was provided with at the school. It is given on a one-time basis to a student in the Middle School, entering grade 9, who has demonstrated leadership potential, participated in a variety of aspects of school life, and has an above-average academic achievement.

Established in 2018, the Amelia Saputo Scholarship is made possible through the generosity of the Saputo family. The Saputo family personifies the school’s ethos of Non Nobis Solum and created this award as an expression of gratitude for the multiple benefits the Saputo family received through their educational and extra-curricular experiences at LCC. The family believes in the pursuit of academic excellence and wanted to help deserving students benefit from everything LCC has to offer.

This scholarship is awarded to an all-round student who can add to the academic and co-curricular life of the school as well as the social fabric of the  community.

Stephanie Garrow and Patrick Belland are the proud parents of Sasha Belland ’21. During her time at LCC, Sasha demonstrated leadership, determination, kindness and a passion for service and global engagement. The Garrow and Belland family is leaving a legacy at LCC in honour of Sasha by giving the opportunity to a deserving female student from a visible minority community who is curious about learning, community engagement and self-development to thrive in, and contribute to, the LCC community.

The Black Family Scholarship was established by Evelyn Jerassy and Richard Black as part of the school’s Centenary Vision Capital Campaign. It is the family’s hope that this scholarship perpetuates the spirit of Non Nobis Solum by permitting a deserving student to benefit from an outstanding LCC education. Made possible through the generosity of the Black Family, it is awarded on a renewable basis to a student entering LCC in grade 7, 8 or 9 who merits an LCC education, maintains a good academic average, and excels and is passionate in their field of academic excellence.

Charles Sanderson Fosbery was the founder of Lower Canada College and headmaster from 1909 to 1935.  He was a graduate from Trinity College in Dublin, where he obtained a B.A. in classics, and he was assistant music master at Cheltenham College in Gloucestershire. Dr. Fosbery was a visionary and he saw the opportunity to build a fine school on Royal Avenue, purchasing seven acres where the school and the "playing fields" exist.

This scholarship, made possible by the generosity of the Chadha Family Foundation in honour of Baljit Singh Chadha, is awarded to a student who, through academics, athletics or co-curricular activities, will provide leadership at Lower Canada College. This entrance scholarship is awarded to a student entering LCC in grade 7 each year.

Denys Steven Penton was headmaster of LCC from 1941 to 1968. He was an Oxford graduate, and he taught history and geography from 1935 when he first joined the school until 1975, when he fully retired from teaching. He was twice president of the Canadian Headmasters' Association and he was awarded the Centennial Medal in 1967… “in recognition of valuable services to the nation”... Four years later, he published a book about LCC entitled Non Nobis Solum - the Latin motto of the school which translates as "Not for Ourselves Alone."

The Daniel A. Artola ’81 Award was established in 2013 by his wife, Dr. Virginia Myles. To honour him, this award was created to perpetuate the spirit of Non Nobis Solum by permitting a deserving student to benefit from an outstanding LCC education. The award recognizes a student entering the Middle or Senior School who maintains a sound academic average of 80% or more and contributes to the school in a variety of co-curricular activities

The award was created and endowed by alumni. Many in the LCC community knew Dave Wood simply as “The Coach.” During his outstanding 41-year career at the school, he was heralded for inspiring the countless students who played football and hockey for him. The award is offered to well-rounded students who participate and excel in sports, and who demonstrate a need for financial assistance. In addition to this support, attracting more students from diverse backgrounds is seen as a way to enrich the LCC experience while enhancing the school’s capacity to make a difference in the lives of its students and the global community they will one day serve.

In honour and memory of LCC former Board Chair David Arditi ’65, Lower Canada College has created the David Arditi ’65 Bursary. David lived our motto, Non Nobis Solum, and guided the school into its second century on Royal Avenue. David was a forward thinker who cared deeply about ensuring the future of LCC. His leadership and can-do spirit helped shape the school into what it is today. The David Arditi ’65 Bursary will be endowed in the Lower Canada College Foundation and provide a student the opportunity to attend LCC. 

As a student, Denys struggled and the school never gave up on him. He graduated university with honours and returned to LCC as part of the faculty. Denys changed students lives for 35 years and continues to do so today, with an award created along with his wife Lyn for deserving students without the financial means to attend LCC.

“This award completes my lifelong dream,” Denys explained in a letter to his children. “I have long had a dream of being able to give back something tangible. Maybe even a little piece of my soul.”

The Dr. Marcia Gillman and Mr. Michael Flinker Scholarship for Academic Excellence recognizes a student who, through academics, athletics or co-curricular activities, demonstrates leadership at Lower Canada College.

Dr. Marcia Gillman and Mr. Michael Flinker Scholarship for Academic Excellence was established in December 2016. This generous family has watched their son transform and excel at LCC. Their scholarship was created to share that experience with other families.

Awarded annually to a student who demonstrates outstanding talent, both athletically and academically. This scholarship is awarded each year, through grade 11, providing the recipient qualifies at each annual review. The scholarship is to be applied toward tuition fees.

G.B. Maughan ’59 was a man actively involved in his community, especially as a member of the LCC Board of Governors (1979-1989, and Chairman 1987-1989) and as a member of the Quebec Superior Court.  He was one of those rare individuals who could combine rigorous athletics with demanding business and family lives, and excel at all three. His former classmates, university hockey teammates, legal colleagues, and family established this fund in 2002 in his memory so that young students exhibiting the same qualities as G.B. could benefit from the LCC experience.

Established in 2001 in memory of Ralph Harper ’47, this award is an expression of gratitude for the multiple benefits the Harper family received through their educational and co-curricular experiences at LCC. 

The Harper Family Award is given to a student entering grade 7 who meets the admission requirements, and who possesses excellent all-round academic abilities and who has demonstrated outstanding achievement in extra-curricular activities such as athletics, the arts, student leadership and community service. This award stays with the recipient through his/her LCC experience and is to be applied toward annual tuition for grades 7-12, providing he/she meets the award qualifications at each annual review. 

The James W. ’39 and Jayne A. McKee Scholarship is awarded to a student entering grade 9 and a student entering the Pre-University program. In the spirit of James McKee, one of the school’s most successful graduates and an active member of the LCC community, this scholarship recognizes a student who has high academic standing, demonstrates good character, citizenship and a caring concern for others, and who has the potential to commit to the full life of the school.

John Ellis '32 loved LCC and considered his education at and connection with the school to be transformative in his life. Mr. Ellis had a most distinguished career, both on the business and philanthropic fronts. Now, with the creation of the John Ellis '32 bursary, generations of deserving students will have the opportunity to benefit from everything LCC has to offer.

The John G. McConnell '29 Award recognizes an all-round student who can contribute to the school in a variety of manners but most particularly students who make a significant commitment to participate in the school’s co-curricular programs and add to the LCC community.

Established in 2018, the LEAD Bursary was made possible through the generosity of the Saputo family. The Saputo family personifies the school’s ethos of Non Nobis Solum and created this bursary as an expression of gratitude for the multiple benefits the Saputo family received through their educational and extra-curricular experiences at LCC. The family believes in the pursuit of academic excellence and wanted to help deserving students develop to their full potential and benefit from everything LCC has to offer.

Mrs. Lisa Levy immigrated to Canada from Europe in the 1950’s. She was very driven and had an ability to get things done, always believing that determination and effort could overcome other deficiencies. Her desire to build a better foundation upon which to excel drove her to make education a priority. Her son Ralph ’77 remains grateful to his mother for providing him with the base of a well-rounded LCC education upon which he was able to cultivate and pursue his varied interests. His own children, Laurence ’10 and Alexandra ’14 also benefited from the LCC experience. Made possible through the generosity of Ralph Levy ’77, in early 2009 to honour her memory, this scholarship was created to perpetuate the spirit of Non Nobis Solum by permitting a deserving student to benefit from an outstanding LCC education.

The Major S.C. Cutbush Scholarships are awarded to a student entering grade 9 and to a student entering the Pre-University program. In the spirit of Major Cutbush, a former faculty member and one of LCC’s truly legendary figures, this award recognizes a student who has strong academic standing and best exemplifies good character and citizenship.

The Marshall Scholarship is awarded to an LCC graduating student with the highest academic average who will be entering the Pre-University program.

Karyn Saragossi and Andrew Lassner have been enthusiastic LCC parents since their son Max '22, Pre U ‘23 started kindergarten in 2010, followed by daughter Ava '24 in 2012. That enthusiasm has seen Karyn donate her time to the LCCPA as a new parent mentor, Junior School class representative, chair of Staff Appreciation Week and at the LCC Store. Karyn's service on the board and as chair of both the advancement committee and major gifts committee has been invaluable to helping LCC achieve its goals. With the creation of the Max ’22, Pre-U ’23 and Ava ’24 Lassner Bursary, generations of deserving students will have the opportunity to benefit from everything LCC has to offer.

The Natanya Khazzam ‘02 Scholarship in Honour of Coeducation was established in November 2016. This prestigious award was created by the youngest graduate in our school’s history to launch a scholarship. She took the initiative and made a major donation to establish the very first girl’s scholarship at LCC during the 20th anniversary of coeducation. LCC played a pivotal role in her life and this scholarship gives an opportunity to share that experience.

The Peter Cundill Foundation, which was established in 2012, honours the legacy of renowned Canadian investment fund manager and philanthropist, F. Peter Cundill FCA, CFA, 1938-2011. The Foundation has an emphasis on promoting the health, education and well-being of young people. This award, established in his honour, supports a student who merits an LCC education and who exemplifies the Cundill Foundation vision.

He and his wife, Audrey Huot, wanted to continue their philanthropic support by creating this fund at LCC to give future students an opportunity to develop to their full potential.

This honour is given to an exceptional achiever who will contribute in an outstanding manner to the learning environment at LCC.  Established in 2006 by Mr. and Mrs. Saper, this scholarship represents the gratitude that Barry M. Saper ’46 felt towards LCC for the educational experience he was provided, having benefited himself from a full scholarship throughout his period at Lower Canada College.

The Trevor Smith Student-Athlete Award was established through contributions in honour of Lower Canada College’s retired athletic director who served the school between 1969-2005. Established in 2005, this award reflects the appreciation of Trevor Smith’s devoted service to LCC students and his desire to see student-athletes thrive.

The recipient must meet established academic standards, demonstrating that he or she can handle the academic workload.  The candidate must make a full commitment to the LCC interscholastic athletic program, specifically to at least one of the following LCC sports: soccer, hockey or basketball.

Mr. Shen Xiao and Mrs. Ling Liu are the parents of Yuan Shun (Terry) ’18 and Avery. 

With an affiliation to the school that spans over 50 years, the Velan family is synonymous with LCC. Ivan ’61 and Penny Velan embody Non Nobis Solum and have given significantly of themselves to LCC. They are parents of five LCC graduates and the grandparents of many LCC students and graduates. Ivan, Penny and their five children have supported LCC for several years in order to ensure deserving children can benefit from an LCC education. This bursary is the culmination of their efforts and will ensure that their gifts perpetually support families in need.

Jacqueline Gelber and Mark Wiltzer have been LCC parents since their son, Headboy Maxwell ’13 (Pre-U ‘14) started kindergarten in 2001, followed by Joseph ’15 (Pre-U ’16) in 2003 and Harry ’20 in 2008. They have seen firsthand how the LCC experience has and continues to benefit their children. Max, Joseph and Harry have excelled in all aspects of school life, with multiple Honour Roll and Certificates of High Achievement, individual academic prizes and athletic accomplishments between them. As a Pre-U Academic Advisor, Max had the opportunity to mentor students in the academic and co-curricular pursuits. Generously supporting the Arts and Sciences at LCC with gifts to the 2009 Centenary and Ambitious Minds Capital Campaigns, Jacqueline and Mark have demonstrated their commitment to LCC and its founding principal, Non Nobis Solum. Now, with the creation of the “Wiltzer Family Bursary,” generations of deserving students will have the opportunity to benefit from everything LCC has to offer.
